 Houston Dog Bowl

THE HOUSTON DOG BOWL

Sanctioned by the Super Bowl XXXVIII Host Committee

PAWS Houston will host it's first annual canine extravaganza.  The Houston Dog Bowl on Saturday, January 24, 2004.

Pets Are Wonderful Support PAWS Houston is a volunteer-based organization that helps improve the quality of life for low income and disabled pet guardians.  PAWS offers emotional and practical support so our clients may keep and care for their companion animals.  PAWS also offers information to the general public about the benefits and risks of animal companionship for immune-compromised people.

Adults, senior citizens, children and their dogs are invited to dress as football fans and come out to the Houston Farm and Ranch Club's Indoor Football Field for an afternoon of fun, food and entertainment.  There will be something for everyone and their pets...trained and non-trained.

The event will start with the "Blessing of the Canines" then pets of all sizes will thrill you with laughter as they strut around the arena wearing football attire during their first Houston Dog Bowl Pet Parade and fashion show Haute2Trot followed by events such as "Sack the Quarterback", "Open Field Fastest Catch", "Cheerleader Dog Costume Fashion Show" and "Field Goal Frisbee" judged by animal aficionados and radio personalities.

Watch the experts in action interact with children from the audience with demonstrations by the Greater Houston Search and Rescue Units, the Lone Star Search and Rescue Dog Association and  Texas Bloodhound Search and Rescue.

Enjoy the Kids Art Contest exhibits and awards presentation.  First, second and third place winners from three age categories  will be announced and presented with $100 US Savings Bonds.

Leave with Doggie Bags filled with coupons, pet food, and participating vendor information.  In addition to providing you with fun activities the day is an unbeatable showcase for all kinds of products and services provided by sponsors and participating vendors.   You may even take a new pet home through the pet adoption agencies.  Pick up a copy of Houston Pet Talk for more details.

The Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows will have evaluators on site to test your dog on temperament.  Your dog may take home a AKC Good Citizen Award.  Rules will be posted with the registration information.  Houston Ruff 'N Ready Dog Agility Association will provide demonstrations with a trial agility course for your pet!

The Kids Art Contest  involves Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris and Montgomery School Districts and the general public.  Entries should express how and why pets bring pleasure and meaning to our lives.  Entries will be available at all PETCO and Sponsor locations.  The First, Second and Third Place winners in each category will receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond.  In addition, all entries will receive a prize package.  Entry Deadline:  December 1, 2003.  (Entries must be postmarked by this date.)
